Update: An Egg-ceptional Spring Soiree!

Just a quick reminder that our 'egg-ceptional' Spring Soiree is quickly approaching!  Join my pal Robert Mahar and I next Saturday morning March 14th for this one of a kind event. We'll be gathering in my Santa Monica kitchen for an intimate scale workshop with Robert who will share his unusual technique for dying eggs using vintage ties.  It's an amazingly simple method you'll use over and over again to fill your Easter basket with intricately patterned eggs.  You'll also learn how to easily hollow and preserve your eggs for years to come.  As always, Robert will prepare beautiful class kits with all of the materials you'll need - just bring a dozen (or two!) raw eggs.  There will also be additional class kits available for purchase, so you can make more at home.

And what better way to follow up a morning of crafting than with with a delicious brunch.  How does bird's nest egg salad, spring greens, jasmine sangria and chocolate bunnies sound?

Then we'll head on over to the Sweetpeas & Snapshots shop for a special Easter egg hunt...we're talking more than just jelly beans - think gift certificates and other gorgeous goodies.  Want to make it a little more interesting?  Wear something robin's egg blue (aka Tiffany blue, dahling) and be eligible to win door prizes all day long!

Plus!  I'll be offering limited edition vintage Easter packs, 20% off of all of your shop purchases and a special surprise make & take project.  Oh, I can't wait!

Introductions...

As promised in our last post, we'd like to formally introduce you to Robert Mahar who we're excited to welcome into the Sweatpeas family as a new primary class instructor.  Some of you may know him from his role as proprietor of Mahar Drygoods or as Grand Poobah of the Junior Society.  Mahar Drygoods is his online shop specializing in vintage and artisan crafted goods for kids and the Junior Society is his blog on kiddie culture and design.

Prior to his online ventures Robert studied studio art and art history (the latter at USC) after which he spent twelve years working as an appraiser of modern and contemporary art in Los Angeles.

Now his days are craft-packed, working and collaborating with more than three dozen artists to bring amazing handmade wares to his shop - everything from limited edition toys to handmade bedding, furniture and decor.  His work has been featured in Real Simple, Parents, Parenting, Lucky and Cookie magazines to name a few (read more here).  Clearly he has a soft spot in his heart for the short set, and we're happy to announce that he'll be bringing his crafting talents to our first classes open to kids (as well as adults!)  You can read more about Robert here and here.  Now go sign up for his first class!

New Summer Workshop!

We're pleased to share a new Sweetpeas & Snapshots class along with a new instructor!  You're invited to join us on June 14th for the 'Little Laundress Workshop', a hands-on tutorial reworking the vintage craft of clothespin dolls.  Robert Mahar (more on him later!) has designed this workshop along with a beautiful class kit containing all 0f the materials you'll need to create four dolls  - from their wooden frames to their painted features, including new and vintage materials & notions for the perfect outfits.

And we've opened up this class to participants ages eight and up - so if you have an older crafty kid with the attention span for a three hour project, this could be a great way to enjoy a Saturday together.  Now don't let this scare you grown-ups off - Robert promises this is not daycare disguised as a craft class!  You'll be surrounded by gorgeous materials in a fun atmosphere and encouraged to create a quartet of dollies as simple or elaborate as you please.

The workshop is limited to fourteen so we encourage you to register quickly!  Class fees are $65. per person or save by bringing a friend  - only $110. when you register two people.  Call us at the shop 310-479-2444 to sign up.
