We will never forget...
Memorial Day is a time of celebration and reflection.
Sweetpeas would like to send our gratitude and prayers to those families who are serving our country presently and in the past.
Our appreciation also goes out to all of our fire fighters and police officers that keep our families safe.
Sweetpeas will be honoring Memorial Day, Sunday, May 25th & Monday, May 26th by closing.
I personally will be honoring my father ,who was a Baltimore City Fireman fallen in the line of duty. One of the reasons I chose the memory keeping business...So,we will never forget the family behind the bravery.
In celebration of Memorial Day weekend , Saturday, May 24, 10:00am-5:00pm we will be having a make-n-take at 11:00 and a huge sale with lots of sweets to satisfy your creativity....

June 14th: Engage in a hands-on tutorial reworking the vintage craft of clothespin dolls with Robert Mahar in his Little Laundress workshop. Includes a beautiful class kit containing all 0f the materials you'll need to create four dolls. Held at Abbott Kinney location.
June 21st: Lisa Guerin will be hosting a Gypsy Junk Jewelry fest! Let your imagination be your guide and create beautiful pieces of vintage inspired jewelry with Shrinky-dinks and gypsy jewels. Held at Pico location.
June 21st: Lilia Meredith's Fabulous Flocking Follies class. Held at Abbott Kinney location
June 22nd: Our beloved Norman Dixon will be holding his famous Anna Griffin basic layout class. If you can't catch this class, he is back on July 13th. Held at Abbot Kinney location
June 28th: Come meet our latest addition to the Sweetpea crew, Robert Mahar, and Learn whimsical techniques in his "Perfect Posies" class as you create paper globe flower pots. Held at Abbott Kinney location.
June 11th: Create art and catch a movie! Join us for a night of fabulous crafting and a movie in the back yard. Bring the kids! Held at Abbott Kinney location.

Our Grand Opening is June 1st...we have a full schedule of classes and events straight through the summer. Abbott Kinney will be open late the first Friday of each month with live entertainment and oodles of shopping....
June 6th, July 11th ,August 1st and September 5th until 10pm...Sweetpeas will have backyard movies on each of these dates...so bring the kids and some sleeping bags.

Introductions...
As promised in our last post, we'd like to formally introduce you to Robert Mahar who we're excited to welcome into the Sweatpeas family as a new primary class instructor. Some of you may know him from his role as proprietor of Mahar Drygoods or as Grand Poobah of the Junior Society. Mahar Drygoods is his online shop specializing in vintage and artisan crafted goods for kids and the Junior Society is his blog on kiddie culture and design.
Prior to his online ventures Robert studied studio art and art history (the latter at USC) after which he spent twelve years working as an appraiser of modern and contemporary art in Los Angeles.
"And if you were to go back a little further," he says of himself, "you'd find a kid who was never finished rearranging his room and would rather stay inside and weave pot-holders on a plastic loom and bake shrinky-dinks than run around the yard."
Now his days are craft-packed, working and collaborating with more than three dozen artists to bring amazing handmade wares to his shop - everything from limited edition toys to handmade bedding, furniture and decor. His work has been featured in Real Simple, Parents, Parenting, Lucky and Cookie magazines to name a few (read more here). Clearly he has a soft spot in his heart for the short set, and we're happy to announce that he'll be bringing his crafting talents to our first classes open to kids (as well as adults!) New Summer Workshop!
We're pleased to share a new Sweetpeas & Snapshots class along with a new instructor! You're invited to join us on June 14th for the 'Little Laundress Workshop', a hands-on tutorial reworking the vintage craft of clothespin dolls. Robert Mahar (more on him later!) has designed this workshop along with a beautiful class kit containing all 0f the materials you'll need to create four dolls - from their wooden frames to their painted features, including new and vintage materials & notions for the perfect outfits.
And we've opened up this class to participants ages eight and up - so if you have an older crafty kid with the attention span for a three hour project, this could be a great way to enjoy a Saturday together. Now don't let this scare you grown-ups off - Robert promises this is not daycare disguised as a craft class! You'll be surrounded by gorgeous materials in a fun atmosphere and encouraged to create a quartet of dollies as simple or elaborate as you please.
The workshop is limited to fourteen so we encourage you to register quickly! Class fees are $65. per person or save by bringing a friend - only $110. when you register two people. Call us at the shop 310-479-2444 to sign up.
